ABOUT THE DAY
The Whisky and Golf Highlander in Australia? Yes, and you can easily do it from Hobart. This is a wonderful full day tour of premium tastings, local produce, heritage, stories, country soul and charm, lovely people and so much fresh air you may get dizzy.
The Whisky and Golf Highlander is in all likelihood just what the Scottish Settlers had in mind when they settled in the area 200 years ago, so we thank them for their foresight and cannot wait to share this absolute gem of a day with you.
We meet you at 9.30 am at Gold Bar located in a 19th Century flour mill halfway between Franklin Square and Elizabeth Street Pier. Gold Bar is a delightful little speakeasy by night serving up local spirits and liqueurs, and in the mornings they fire up the workers with great coffee. You will love it and for us it’s a great meeting place and departure point.
We share a coffee together before leaving Hobart and head north along the Derwent River crossing over at a bridge across the water called “Bridgewater” and a breeding habitat for Black Swans. Our first stop is Historic Shene Estate. The ”Shed” is perfect for a complimentary expression of Estate made Gin and Whiskey and firing up the imagination about privileged pioneer life in Tasmania almost 200 years ago, and present day passion and craft. You also have the option and time to purchase a half or full dram to enjoy as you wander around the impressive grounds and admire the beautiful sandstone buildings.
Continuing a little further north our next stop is at Old Kempton Distillery for a private guided tour, tastings and a shared platter lunch of local produce. The sun is at its highest and historic Dysart House provides yet another classic Tassie marriage of the old and new for the lucky traveler to enjoy. On wards with a short and very scenic drive up to the central highland plateau to the charming village of Bothwell and Ratho Farm, established 1821.
It is now early afternoon and a great time to play some golf on Australia’s oldest course. Imagine sharing that shot of you in full swing “just playing a round in Bothwell at Ratho Farm and then off for some more Whisky at Nant around the corner.”
Now golf is of course not mandatory, so if hitting a little white ball is not your thing, then we recommend relaxing in the atrium with a pot of tea and exploring the history and grounds of this beautiful homestead in peace and quiet.
After Ratho Farm and golf we drive 2 minutes down a dirt road to Nant Estate for a tour of the old mill and relatively newer distillery, and of course some more delicious tastings and interesting stories.
We are 80 km from Hobart and it is time to start heading back but we have one more stop en route - Rathmore Farm, an historic sheep property settled in 1828. This is the kind of place you might see on Get Away where you turn to your partner and say “Honey, I’d love to visit that place.” We have enough time to wander around, have some afternoon tea and it's a great time of day to also spot the platypus that reside in the rivulet running through the farm.
We drive back to Hobart against the flow of commuter traffic and with the sun at our back arriving 5.30-6pm and can take you to wherever you like within 10 minutes of CBD or further by arrangement.

ABOUT THE DAY
The Derwent Valley is becoming renowned far and wide for its produce and natural beauty, no longer hidden in the shadows of Hobart. After our Long Lunch tasting and drinking in the highlights, soaking up the green and calm, we are certain your senses will have had an extraordinary day out.
We meet you at 10 am at Gold Bar located in an old flour mill halfway between Franklin Square and Elizabeth Street Pier. Gold Bar is a delightful little speakeasy by night serving up local spirits and liqueurs, and in the mornings they fire up the workers with great coffee. You will love it and for us it’s a great meeting place where we share a coffee together before leaving Hobart.
Travelling north along the Derwent River it is not long at all before we visit our first location for a tasting - Moorilla Estate. This is Tasmania’s second oldest winery and is of course co-located with MONA. We continue following the Derwent River to Stefano Lubiana Winery to enjoy some more wine tasting, architecture, art, design, story and passion.
Travelling on to historic New Norfolk we share some of the history and stories of this delightful town, one of the oldest in Australia with a fascinating past. We drop you off at the community gardens so you can appreciate many ingredients that local foodies use and then you will stroll along the track for 5 minutes to the Agrarian Kitchen Eatery for the culinary highlight of the day.
You may have heard already about Agrarian Kitchen Eatery and their Cooking School. They have garnered much publicity recently with awards and recognition - for example . Few places in Australia can offer such a culinary experience, so fresh and lovingly prepared and so accessible. We will enjoy a two hour degustation with dessert and wine.
After lunch we head west along the river for 10 minutes and stop at the superb Two Meter Tall Farm Bar to meet proprietors Ashley and Jane and taste some of their beautifully made ales and ciders. This is the quintessential “follow your passion” love story and we will likely be able to hear first hand from them about that - and it shows in their delicious beverages all made onsite from local ingredients.
It is now time to start heading for home, but not before one more stop that will mean a country drive that is neither too short or too long. Shut your eyes or look out the window and let your mind wander as crops and tractors, sheds and forests, cattle and villages pass by. Lawrenny Estate and Distillery, stories and the embodiment of hard work and vision, award winning spirits, tasting in the field and the feeling of being so far from your everyday make the extra miles well worth it.
We drive back to Hobart against the flow of commuter traffic arriving 5 - 5.30 pm and can take you to wherever you like within 10 minutes of CBD or further by arrangement.

ABOUT THE DAY
Nature is medicine and walking in nature is so good for every person and every body - as well as mind and spirit.
An hour long walk in nature along a trail, either at the start or end of your day could be just what you need, or what Mum or your Doctor wants for you.
The beauty of this Wild Walk is that it will always be different depending on the trail - there are so many great trails on Hobart’s fringe, but always just 90 minutes of your time.
How many steps can you reach in 60 minutes… 6000, 7000, 8000? If it is only 5000 starting out, then what could it be after a few weeks?
Wild Walk Wednesday is a 90 minute commitment - a small investment that offers impressive returns.
