Whisky Isle Tasmania
Tasmania is blessed with all of the ingredients to make world class Spirits. Clean soft water. Favourable latitude and climate. Good soil and land management producing quality grains such as Barley. And dedicated people who are passionate about their final product. Their reputations. Your enjoyment.
Watch out World! Tasmanian Whisky is only getting better!
Distilling grain the Tasmanian way, and all of the success that has come from Pioneers such as Bill and Lyn Lark, Peter Bignell, Casey Overeem and many others, is still very young. Whisky Isle Tasmania 2.0 really only got underway in the mid-nineties.
Now with the opening of Callington Mill at Oatlands, and the announcement of a new Sullivans Cove Distillery, the local industry is in a strong position to meet rising demand for Made in Tasmania Whisky, Gin and other Spirits.
Tasmanian Whisky, and Gin, is attracting a lot of attention from Judges and the Public, not only locally, but around the world. Our water, our grains, our botanicals, our Distillers and our Industry is capturing the attention and palates of happy people everywhere.
The Derwent Experience is launching two new Whisky Tours out of Hobart called #AmazingWhisky_Amazing Tasmania and Devilish Spirits.
Anyone can purchase happiness in a bottle from numerous places, but it is quite something else to taste the beauty straight from the cask at the Distillery. Surrounded by history, grand designs and a process that will inspire you, a Spirits Tour is a real treat.
#AmazingWhisky_Amazing Tasmania will take you to two Distilleries - Callington Mill and Old Kempton. Time in historic Richmond, stories, old Georgian stone cottages and public buildings from the 1850’s, beautiful countryside. With this tour, you are relaxing into yesteryear and being a part of old Australia. Quiet Australia. This is history x relaxing x whisky. A wonderful Whisky Tour that is about more than just the Whisky, and designed to be easy for everybody to enjoy, even for the Whisky curious.
Devilish Spirits is part of our “Tasmanian Taste Sensations” Epicurean Adventures - so food, wine and spirits truly take center stage with these experiences. With at least eight Distilleries spread over a large swathe of Southern Tasmania, it is best if we customise the experience for you. This is especially true when we factor in that each Distillery offers its own unique experience when it comes to blending your own bottle, touring the distillery and meeting key people.
