Derwent Valley Taster

Classic half-day, small group expression of elegant relaxing that includes numerous tastings, a beautiful country town and plenty of time for day dreaming.

The Derwent Valley Taster presents Tasmania’s beautiful Derwent Valley in a simple and accessible way, a tour not too short nor too long. Headphones, book, journal, camera, and your Grandparents welcome.

This tour cruises along the Derwent River to the beautiful Derwent Estate Winery where we will be served many fine wines for tasting along with story and good cheer. As your palate is pampered, flirt with science, risk, passion and boldness and see how easy, or hard it is to find a favourite. An optional cheese platter and other delicious nibbles will be available. Unhurried, there is plenty of time to enjoy the tasting, and also to wander around the grounds and admire the 200 plus year old Rathbone Cottage from many angles, inside and out. If conditions permit we may even be able to wander through the vines and possibly even reaching a high point on the property for sublime views that captures more fully the Wineries abundant beauty.

We then continue west to explore and savour New Norfolk and its many charms and emerging delights for a lazy hour and a quarter. Feel free to sit in Arthur Square, perambulate around town or stroll along the riverside. Antiquing, cafes, history, gardens, food, craft drinks and more tastings - New Norfolk is garnering attention from further and further afield as one of Australia's best regional towns for living. Even the gun shop on main street is really interesting. No matter the weather or season, this is an enjoyable buddy stop to the Winery before we return to Hobart along the other side of the river. Australian Traveller magazine provides a great introduction on the delights that await.
